Club Closure following Tier 4 Announcement

Dear Club Members

Following the government announcement this afternoon which places Suffolk in Tier 4, the Club will be closed with effect from 7.00pm tomorrow evening, Christmas Eve (the Club is already closed on Christmas Day).

This means that all Clubhouse and indoor facilities, including the Tennis Air Dome, will be closed – however the outdoor Tennis courts will remain open for play, for members only, in line with the LTA government guidelines for outdoor play and free of charge until the end of December 2020.

Should the Club remain closed in January 2021, members on Monthly memberships will not be charged; members on Annual memberships will be compensated for the period of closure on their next membership renewal date.  We will take care of this administration our end so you do not need to cancel your direct debits or do anything more at this stage.  If you have paid for an activity (eg. Tennis course) in full or part and we have been unable to run the activity, we will carry these payments over to future activities so please do keep your receipt.

Tennis Outdoor play in January 2021 – if we remain closed but outdoor play continues to be permitted, we will operate a PAYG system, for members only, as before and members are asked to pay £5.00 per booking slot (maxium charge £40.00 per month per member) using the Club’s Bank details below.  All courts must be booked via the Online Booking System as normal in advance of play – if you have any issues with bookings, please email tennis@ipswichsports.co.uk.

With the Club closed, there will be no staff on duty to answer member enquiries, however we envisage a skeleton team will be returning to their duties shortly before we re-open.  Please visit our website for new updates https://ipswichsportsclub.co.uk/news.

As before, should members wish to consider making a donation to the Club – they can do so by setting up a payment via standing order or one-off payment using the following Club Bank details, with DONATION, your surname and/or membership number as shown as the reference:

Bank Name:  LLOYDS BANK PLC

Sort Code:  30-94-55

Account No:  24053363

MEMBER NOTICE – Club Update following Tier 2 Announcement

Dear Club Members

COVID-19

We have just heard that Ipswich remains in Tier 2.

We would therefore like to confirm to members that all activities continue as they are currently and we ask that everyone continues to adhere to the government guidelines and COVID-19 procedures in place at the Club.  We would like to take this opportunity to thank members for their continued support of the Club whilst it continues to face the on-going challenge of the restrictions.

Online Member Bookings for all activities

Following the recent trial of early morning online bookings and after consultation with various section representatives and via feedback from members, the Online Booking System opening time has been changed with immediate effect.  Members can now start making bookings online from 8.00am which is in line with our Reception opening time.  This is for all studio, gym, tennis, squash and racketball bookings.

 Courts/Bookings

As we are now in the peak winter squash and indoor tennis season we would like to remind all members, coaching staff and event organisers that in the event you need to cancel a court please do so as soon as possible and ideally no later than 24 hours prior to the booking.  Members can cancel a booking online up to the day itself alternatively contact Reception on 01473 251143.  Releasing courts allows other members to reuse these slots and ensures the courts are used to their maximum.

book what you need to avoid empty courts and please continue to allow a small gap between the next booking to allow time for safe changeovers.  Court bookings should only be made when you intend to play rather than just reserving them ‘just in case’.

Whilst times are challenging we remain positive about promoting our wonderful Club to the local community and hope members noticed our most recent press article.   I am sure you will all agree how much the Club means to us all and would encourage you all to pass on all we do here at the Club to friends and family so they too can experience all we have to offer.

Subject to any further government announcements, and on behalf of the Club Executive, Council and Committees, I would like to wish you all a safe and Merry Christmas.

Club re-Opening from Wednesday 2 December 2020

Dear Club Members

As members will almost certainly be aware Suffolk has now been placed under Tier 2 COVID-19 restrictions from Wednesday, 2 December 2020 as opposed to Tier 1 restrictions which applied prior to the latest country wide lockdown.

The good news is that the Club will be re-opening on Wednesday, 2 December 2020 to the fullest extent permitted by Government restrictions and national sports governing bodies’ guidelines.  However, because of the move between Tier 1 and 2 restrictions there will be some changes to what members were able to enjoy previously before the latest lockdown.

Set out below briefly are the main changes.  A fuller message is planned to go out to members at the start of next week with greater detail, as further clarification is received from various sources.

Tennis

Outdoor tennis is limited to the ‘rule of 6’ as before.  For indoor tennis adults are limited to play with people in the same household/support bubble or one-to-one singles or coaching (with an exemption for tennis activity for disabled people and for under 18s).  Coaching will be in accordance with the latest LTA guidelines.  The Air Dome is due to be inflated on Monday, 30 November 2020.

Squash and Racketball

The key difference is that full court play is only permitted between members of a single household or a legally permitted support bubble.  Adults can do solo sessions.  Junior group coaching and one-to-one coaching for adults and juniors can continue.  Adults in a squash bubble can play sides.

Gym & Studio

The Gym and Studio can re-open and continue as before lockdown – so basically no change.

Hockey

Can restart and training sessions will recommence from Wednesday, 2 December 2020 with first matches scheduled for Saturday,  12 December 2020.  Further details will come from the Hockey Committee.

Bookings

Members wishing to make bookings for Tennis/Squash/Racketball courts, Gym sessions and Studio Classes may now do so for bookings from Wednesday, 2 December 2020 inclusive.

Bar & The Courtside Bistro

This is a side of Club activities that will be significantly affected by the move from Tier 1 to Tier 2 restrictions.  We are liaising with Darius and Jill as to their intentions.  Under the new restrictions, alcohol can only be provided with a substantial meal.  It is possible that we may decide to operate on a take-away soft and hot drinks basis only.  Members can only sit at a table in the bar area alone or with another person from their household in any event.

While delighted that we can at least re-open with most of our sports and fitness activities, the limitations within which we must operate will unfortunately particularly affect the social side of the Club that had been recovering well following the last re-opening.

We thank all those members who have continued to support the Club in so many ways through these recent and difficult months and hope it won’t be too long before the pandemic is on the decline and restrictions can be reduced and eventually lifted altogether.

Club Announcement re Lockdown ⚠ 2 November 2020

Dear Club Members

Following the Prime Minister’s announcement on 31 October 2020, the Executive have met to consider the closure of facilities and membership arrangements.

Whilst we are awaiting LTA guidance on whether outdoor tennis activity between two individuals will be permitted, we are expecting parliament to uphold the decision to close all lesure/sports clubs by end of the day, Wednesday, 4 November 2020. We are therefore advising members that we plan to shut the Club buildings again and furlough the staff as of Thursday, 5 November 2020. If we are able to offer outdoor tennis we will of course provide an update on this as soon as we can.

This lockdown is somewhat different to last time in that we believe it will only last for a month. We would ask that members bear with us as we propose to collect the Monthly Direct Debit for November 2020 but we will not be collecting for December 2020.

The previous arrangements will apply to Annual Memberships.

We have not increased subscription levels for five years and this has had an impact on our overall revenues and we still have running costs and repairs to meet.

We will update members with further news as time goes on.

Ipswich Sports Club (‘ISC’), on Henley Road – crowned the Lawn Tennis Association’s (‘LTA’) ‘Club of the Year’ in 2019 – is looking forward to welcoming tennis players of all abilities this Winter, as leisure returns to town.

ISC, which boasts top-class sports and fitness facilities, offers a range of different classes for all levels, and is proud to be an accredited ‘centre of excellence’ for tennis, all-year-round.

The Club offers six indoor tennis courts during the Winter – three indoor courts and three ‘air dome’ courts – in accordance with LTA COVID-19 standards. The Club also has a further five outdoor floodlit courts.

Visitors can be assured that the Club is operated in full compliance with the latest COVID-19 guidance and protocols, and appropriate social distancing is in place throughout.

Tennis singles and doubles are permitted, and the Club has spaced members out and installed one-way systems to ensure social distancing in all areas. Courts are booked online and all visitors are temperature-checked upon arrival.

Vanessa Penn, Chairman of Ipswich Sports Club, said:

“We welcome tennis players of all levels and abilities to use our extensive, state-of-the-art facilities.

“We offer something for everyone, whether you are a new player, an aspiring ‘Andy Murray’ or just after some exercise and a chance to socialise with friends in our well-stocked bar. We are not just a gym, tennis, squash, hockey facility: we are a place to belong.

“So, as Winter approaches and the nights draw in, why not take the chance to get fit, escape the British weather and come and play tennis with us inside!”

As well as tennis, ISC also offers squash, racket ball, hockey and a well-equipped, uncrowded gym – all of which are included in the competitive all-inclusive membership fee, which starts from just £34.50 per month for a single adult off-peak.

*NEW* updated COVID-19 guidelines from Thursday, 24 September 2020

Dear Club Members

*NEW* updated COVID-19 guidelines from Thursday, 24 September 2020

Following the Government announcement this week please find below some changes now required by the Club to meet the new guidelines – we ask all members to adhere to and assist with the new procedures:

ON ARRIVAL AT RECEPTION

– The Club’s unique NHS Track and Trace QR code is now displayed in the reception area for customers to self check-in. This can be completed by downloading the NHS App on your phone/device and scanning the code via a QR reader on your phone/device then completing the form. The App is due to go live tomorrow, 24 September 2020, however if for any reason the App does not work, please continue to check in at reception in the usual way.

BAR & FOOD

– Members entering the Club for the bar or catering are asked to wear face coverings on entering the building, face coverings can be removed when seated at a table when eating or drinking.
– The Club will be introducing table service from Thursday, 24 September for all orders. Customers are asked to make the bar staff aware when they arrive and where they will be sitting. Members will need to place their orders by filling in one of the order forms provided at each table and alerting the bar staff when ready to make their purchase.
– Members can continue to socialise in a group of up to 6 people maximum from different households; social distancing should still be maintained when meeting with others.

SPORTS & FITNESS

– Members entering the Club for sports and fitness are advised to wear face coverings before and after their activity or in areas where social distancing cannot be maintained.
Members are not required to wear face coverings whilst exercising.

All other current COVID-19 guidelines will remain in place but as a reminder please do not come to the Club if you feel unwell.

It has been great seeing a lot of members back using the facilities over the last few weeks. Restarting some of the tennis and squash programmes and food events by The Courtside Bistro has brought back some normality to our everyday lives.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your continued support and patience in these difficult times.
