On Sunday we held the Pro-Am tennis Tournament , fun day and BBQ at the club. The action packed day started at 10am with the tennis tournament which saw 30 players of all levels split in to 5 teams each captained by a coach.
Teams played against each other over 5 rounds with all players having a match with and against the captains. We used all six courts at the back of the club which provided the spectators with an excellent viewing spot to enjoy some exciting tennis. Each team sat out one round giving them and all the other people who had come along to enjoy the
day a chance to take part in one of the many fun games in the outdoor bar area including Pétanque, Target Tennis, Corn Hole, Chess, Skittles as well as Pickle Ball, Padel and Table Tennis that had also been set up around the club. With some up beat tunes playing and warm weather this all led to a friendly fun atmosphere which was great to see and feel around the club.
The tennis finished around 1pm with Team A lead by Chris Palmer winning 59% of their games being crowned winners. Team E led by Harry Wilson were well out in front going into the last round but ended up winning 52% coming a close second. Wayne was the individual high scorer of the day with an impressive 82%. A full list of results is attached below.
Many thanks to Chris Daynes, Lee Tweed, Harry Wilson and Tom Belton for giving up their time and for making this such an enjoyable tennis tournament for all the members that took part in it.
A wonderful BBQ lunch was then served by Gill and Dariusz to over 80 people many of who stayed on well in to the afternoon and evening to enjoy the games and friendly social atmosphere with something for everyone of all ages as we had a 1 year old and a 92 year old in attendance and everyone in between.
Hollie Newton beat over 70 participants to win the Target Tennis with a score of 460, Chris Boucher was second on 330. Those of you who have played tennis with Hollie will know that she often throws her racket from her right to left hand when playing matches so was able to use this skill to rack up a good score as the challenge involved using both dominant and non dominant hands! Chris Daynes did come along after it had finished and demonstrated his coaching skill scoring 500.
Thank you also to the helpers on the day who ran various games around the club, Lillian for running the Pickle ball tasters, Barry for running the Table Tennis, Mark Cracknell and Russ Smith for running the Padel, Henry for helping everyone play Pétanque and to my co-organiser Heather Beaton for sorting out all the prizes which were enjoyed by all the winners.
